Wow! Only four months open but this will be one of my go to places in Nanaimo. As today we look to help support local businesses and Canadian businesses I love that this restaurant originated in Nova Scotia. Close to the university this restaurant is perfectly placed between Subway and Starbucks. This was my first time and will not be my last. Lots of parking since it is at the university plaza. The restaurant is very clean with lots of places to sit. A wide choices from the menu. I had the Mac attack. The staff were superb.The were attentive, patient and kind. You can tell their food is made with heart. The sandwich was reasonably priced. They brought the food to my table and it was perfect hot temperature. Lots of flavour and not too much sauce.I highly recommend this restaurant as this is the first one on Vancouver Island. See you next time

Went for a takeout lunch to try as I’d heard about it online. Service was friendly and about 7mins wait and it was a moderately busy restaurant with some done in customers but mostly younger and take out clientele. I ordered a small russet fries which were great. Fries were hot, crunchy and had nice fresh potato flavor. Price was $3.95. Next I ordered a Southwest Chicken Melt which was about the $15 mark and definitely NOT worth the money. I asked for multigrain and was given sourdough. This bread was grilled nicely but very tough to bite into and way oversized but thin for the 2 small pieces of chicken inside of it. A few bites of each cut half of the sandwich were significantly bread and sauce only. The lettuce was cut so thin it became soggy and the sauce was sloppy. I would not recommend this item at all. The restaurant was clean and parking is plentiful. Would try again but would likely avoid the sandwiches and just maybe have poutine or smaller items. I’ve heard the shakes are good but did not try them. Overall 3/5 stars with a recommendation to try at own risk as it’s very mediocre.

We heard about this new place and thought we would try it. We ordered delivery from skip. We ordered the classic grilled cheese sandwich, on sourdough bread with mustard, no upgrade. You can add items to your sandwich, that’s what the upgrade is. It was only $7.00 and we felt it was good value for it. The sandwich bread was big, and it was ozzzing with cheese. It was an excellent sandwich and we would definitely order it again. We also ordered the hot mess loaded Mac & Cheese. This was not what we expected for $14.75. It was a small amount of food for the price and frankly not worth it. The macaroni was soggy soft, and I think the big brown pieces in it were mushrooms. It was not at all appealing and neither of us liked it. We would not order that again. So in conclusion we would try Meltwich Food Co again, but we would be more careful with what we ordered.
