COOK: Where Yale Meets Kale (Until Midnight) Nestled in the historic heart of New Haven at 1064 Chapel Street, COOK (or Cook 2Go for the formally inclined) is what happens when a convenience store has a glow-up and discovers wellness influencers on TikTok. This bright, subway-tiled establishment manages to be simultaneously bougie and practical, like a Whole Foods that went to Yale. The menu reads like a superhero roster for the health-conscious: "The Hulk" (appropriately green), "Superman" (presumably gives you powers to finish that term paper), and the intriguingly named "Hangover" smoothie (their most honest menu item). Prices hover in the $8-12 range, real steep for a smoothie, but more cheaper than a trip to the health clinic. Open from 7 AM to midnight most days (1 AM on Saturdays for the wild ones), it's perfectly positioned to serve both the morning yogis and the midnight crammers. The Sunday 7 PM close time is their one concession to human limitations. The space itself is a study in contrasts: industrial-chic ceiling meets turquoise cafeteria chairs, while refrigerated cases full of health drinks sit next to enough snack options to fuel an all-nighter. The white subway tiles and bright lighting ensure you can see exactly what you're eating, a bold move for any establishment open until midnight. The staff maintains that rare balance of being friendly without being overly perky (crucial when dealing with pre-coffee customers), and the place stays impressively clean despite serving a population whose primary food group is often coffee. Best for: - Health enthusiasts with flex dollars to spend - Students seeking redemption after a night out - Anyone who needs to feel virtuous about their snacking choices - People who believe adding protein powder makes anything a meal Skip if: - You're seeking a cozy, dimly-lit 3rd date experience - Your idea of a smoothie is a frozen margarita - You're allergic to both açai bowls and Yale students In essence, COOK is the perfect embodiment of modern college-town dining: healthy enough to impress your wellness-obsessed roommate, convenient enough for your 11:45 PM study break, and just expensive enough to make you think twice about that second smoothie. But hey, at least it's better for you than the traditional midnight pizza run.

I went after work at the hospital and their breakfast sandwich was so much better than hospital cafeteria food. I have a hard time eating egg based sandwiches but I was impressed and I even finished my sandwich. The cheese had a good flavor - it was melted in nicely. It was a real egg in the sandwich. The bread was good. I'm definitely going back when I'm in need of food on the way home after a long night shift. This is so much better than the next door Panera Bread and nearby Starbucks for a breakfast sandwich.

A new Korean grocery plus a complete section of Korean prepared foods to go and a buffet bar style of pick your own choice that start at $11.99/lb. Big plus for them for being open 24 hours. They have selections of authentic prepared Korean foods such as spicy tofu stew, clear beef soup, bulgoki bento that comes with white rice and kimchi, and variety of Korean side dishes such as anchovies and nuts, pickled radish, kimchi, pickled cucumbers and steamed egg. My favorite is their pickled cucumbers. They also serve coffee and fresh juices. There is also a dining area toward the back. They also have a selection of sandwiches. Toward the back there is a selection of Korean packaged noodles or ramyeon. I haven't try their buffet bar yet but I have tried their many varieties of Korean side dishes. Their taste is pretty authentic. This is a great place that open right in the heart of Yale. Parking also will be a challenge just as other eateries in downtown New Haven. I will definitely frequent this place.
