The food is only a 4 because the Fish sandwich.. which was hot and fresh along with the onion rings, had entirely too much tartar sauce on it and leaked all over my hands, the box the table, the napkins. Pretty messy for a fish sandwich. The staff is very friendly and service was great.

Warning to Potential Customers: Poor Service at Portillo's Madison Location I regret to share my disappointing experience at the Portillo's location in Madison near the mall. The service was alarmingly slow and disorganized. Our orders were incorrectly prepared, and it appeared that the staff prioritized socializing over attending to customers. Despite not being particularly busy that evening, we were left waiting 23 minutes for our meal, only to see other customers who ordered after us served first. When I brought my concerns to the attention of the manager, I was met with rudeness and a lack of accountability. This reflects a troubling lack of professionalism among the staff, who seemed indifferent to the needs of waiting customers. It’s clear that this location is in dire need of a management overhaul, including the hiring of new staff who understand the importance of customer service. I can't recommend this Portillo's to anyone at this time. I hope the owners and regional managers take this feedback seriously and address the issues promptly. Zero for the service and those staff members at the time!

I came here based on a recommendation of a friend, and I’m so glad I did! The environment was fun, well-decorated, and tidy; the service was friendly, efficient, and accurate; the food itself was well-presented, hot, and delicious! If I wasn’t an out-of-towner, I’d definitely be back.
